Unpack the gate set and lay out all components to check nothing's damaged before installation. Mount the posts firmly into the ground at the spacing recommended in the manual, ensuring they're plumb and won't shift under animal pressure. Connect the gate framework to the posts using the hardware provided, then attach the electric wire to the insulators at the correct height for your stock type. Once assembled, connect to your energiser with the lead-out cable and test the fence with a voltmeter before turning animals in. Tips: Keep grass and weeds trimmed back from under your gate—they'll short out the electric current and leave you with a dud fence. Check your connections regularly, especially after storms, as loose terminals are the most common reason gates stop working properly. In dry Queensland summers, you might need to water the ground around your posts slightly to maintain good earth return, particularly if you're on sandy or rocky country.
