Connect your water supply line and turn on slowly to check for leaks at all fittings. Test the valve operation by letting the tank empty slightly; it should refill automatically without overflow or constant trickling. Tips: Always match your ball float pressure rating to your system pressure (most rural supplies run 100-350kPa). Install a simple strainer on the inlet line if drawing from a dam or bore to prevent sediment fouling the valve seat. Check your float valve quarterly, especially in sandy or silty water areas, as debris can cause sticking and water waste.
