The downee (angled brace) should be fitted to direct load away from the corner post, typically angled down and away from the direction of fence pressure. Ensure all connections are tight and check them again after a few weeks once the timber has settled. Tips: Always use galvanised or stainless fasteners — rural Queensland salt air and rain will rust ordinary steel within months and compromise your corner. Set your corner post deeper than standard posts (at least 900mm) before fitting the corner bracket, as corners take significant lateral pressure that'll shift a shallow post. Check the angle of your downee regularly, especially after heavy cattle pressure or storm damage, as a bent or misaligned brace won't support the corner properly.
