Lay the lead-out cable in a trench at least 150mm deep to protect it from stock damage and UV degradation, keeping it away from metal gates and water troughs where possible. Connect one end to the energiser output terminal and run the other end to your fence line, securing it with insulators every 2-3 metres to prevent sagging. If the cable needs to run under a gate, thread it through PVC conduit to stop animals from chewing through it and to protect against wear. Tips: Bury the cable deeper than you think necessary in high-traffic areas—stock will find a shallow cable and damage it within weeks. Always use a cable locator or mark the buried line with stakes so you don't hit it with machinery later, and check for damage after heavy rain or ground movement.
