The MBS200 can be set up as a portable or a permanent energiser, and the earthing differs. Connect your fence line to the fence terminal and your earth system to the earth terminal. For a quick portable or temporary setup, a single earth stake driven into moist soil can be enough. For a permanent fence, Gallagher specifies a proper earth system: a minimum of three earth stakes, each at least 2 m long, spaced about 4 m apart, connected together with heavy galvanised wire back to the earth terminal — add more earthing if performance is low, as poor earthing is the most common cause of weak fence performance. Keep the earth system well away from any mains or building earth. Switch on and check the LED bar graph, then confirm performance with a fence voltage tester or fault finder — never test the fence by hand. Follow the Gallagher MBS200 manual for full installation and safety instructions. Tips: Keep vegetation trimmed back from the fence line — wet grass and weeds touching the wire drain the fence. The LED bar graph shows both fence voltage and battery status at a glance; a drop in the reading means it's time to check for faults, vegetation or a weak earth.
