Earthlife Flower Blend — Full Description

is a mineral- and humate-based fertiliser and soil conditioner designed specifically to support flowering plants. It can be used in garden beds, around established plants, and in pots, and is intended for all flowering plants, all soils and all year round.

What it contains

Earthlife describes Flower Blend as containing approximately 60 mineral elements, including major nutrients, trace elements, plant-available silica and beneficial soil microorganisms. Its typical analysis is:

  • Nitrogen (N): 1.5%
  • Phosphate (P): 2.5%
  • Potassium (K): 2.7%
  • Calcium: 13.5%
  • Magnesium: 3.5%
  • Silica: 28.0%
  • Sulphate: 2.0%
  • Plus numerous other micronutrients, including elements such as iron, zinc, copper and boron.

The 2024 Safety Data Sheet lists the principal material components as rock phosphate, volcanic rock and natural rare earths (70–80%), organic materials (<10%), sulphate of potash (1.5–10%), granam (5–20%) and trace elements (<1%).

What it is designed to do

Flower Blend is intended to:

  • Encourage stronger, healthier root systems
  • Stimulate bud formation and flower development
  • Encourage more abundant flowering
  • Improve flower colour and quality
  • Help plants cope with adverse growing conditions
  • Help delay petal fall
  • Improve the keeping quality of flowers after picking
  • Supply a broad range of minerals and nutrients rather than simply providing N-P-K.

The relatively high silica content is another feature of the formulation; Earthlife describes it as plant-available silica, alongside minerals and beneficial microbial/fungal species.

What plants can you use it on?

It is suitable for essentially all flowering plants, including plants such as:

  • Roses
  • Hibiscus
  • Camellias
  • Azaleas
  • Annual flowers
  • Perennials
  • Ornamental flowering plants
  • Australian native flowering plants

Earthlife specifically states that it is safe for Australian native plants.

How to apply it

Flower-bed preparation:
Apply 300 g per m² (approximately 3 handfuls), lightly work it into the soil and water thoroughly.

At planting:
Earthlife recommends applying Flower Blend after backfilling at 300 g/m², followed by thorough watering. The product fact sheet also describes using Garden Mate in the planting hole.

Established plants:
Apply 300 g/m², generally every 8 weeks while the plant is flowering. For perennials, reapply after pruning and then continue at approximately 8-week intervals through the flowering period.

Potted plants:
Use approximately 1–2 handfuls per 300 mm pot diameter.

For the best response, Earthlife recommends spreading it over the soil, lightly raking it in and watering thoroughly.
