Screw the ring onto your Gallagher energiser unit by hand until it's snug—don't over-tighten or you'll strip the threads. Make sure your earth stake is properly driven in before you connect the fence line, as a poor earth will kill your fence performance regardless of how tight the ring is. Once connected, check that your fence is holding voltage with a tester before you trust it with stock. Tips: Keep a spare ring on hand because a stripped or damaged screw-in ring will put your whole fence down and you won't know it until stock are out. Check the threads occasionally for corrosion if you're running the unit in damp conditions—a bit of WD-40 keeps them turning freely. Make sure your energiser is sitting on level ground and the ring isn't under strain from the fence cable pulling sideways, or you'll loosen the connection over time.
