Install the 50mm Cocky Valve body into your trough or tank, choosing whether to mount it above or below the required water level to suit your setup. Some arm combinations allow the valve to be inverted and fitted up through the bottom face of the trough, which is ideal for feedlot installations — check which arm suits your configuration before fitting. Thread or fit your water supply line securely to the valve inlet. Attach your chosen float arm and float, then adjust the arm angle so the water cuts off cleanly at your desired fill level. Allow the tank to fill and watch for any leaks around the valve body, tightening connections as needed. Once full, manually lift the float to confirm the valve shuts off completely, then let it drop to confirm it opens again freely. Check that the push rod, washer, and washer seat are correctly seated — these are included in the packet along with two split pins to secure the arm. Tips: The Cocky Valve body suits both very low and very high pressure water supplies, so it will work reliably on mains, header tank, or dam-fed systems. Always select a float arm rated to match your supply pressure. On dam-fed or bore systems where sediment is common, flush the supply line before connecting to prevent debris fouling the washer seat. Position the valve where you can reach the float arm easily for future adjustment and maintenance.
