Introduce cattle gradually over 7-10 days, starting with salt-only licks before allowing access to urea blocks. Ensure adequate dry roughage (hay or dry grass) is available at all times, as urea requires sufficient fibre for safe rumen function. Provide fresh water continuously, but place the block away from water sources to prevent gorging after drinking. Allow free access once cattle are accustomed, monitoring daily intake to ensure it remains within safe limits of 40-80g urea per head per day. Tips: Never introduce hungry or starving cattle to urea blocks—they will overconsume and toxicity can be fatal within hours. Position blocks in well-trafficked areas away from feed troughs and water points to encourage moderate, distributed intake throughout the day. If intake appears excessive, add extra salt to the feeding area or reduce block availability to naturally limit consumption rates.
