CALIBRATION FLUID pH 7.0 1LT FERNLAND PHBUFF7-1
pH Buffer 7 is a solution of known and exact pH.
If your pH meter doesn’t read pH 7 when the probe is put into the buffer then the meter is wrong and needs calibrating.
We recommend that the meter is checked with pH 7 Buffer at least once a week, and checked with pH 4 buffer at least monthly.
Each pH meter comes with instructions on how to calibrate the meter. Pour enough buffer from the bottle to cover the glass end of the probe when calibrating, and discard the solution after.
It isn’t best practice to return used buffer to the bottle it came from.
Correct pH of hydroponic nutrient solutions is critical. Mineral absorption by the roots is pH dependent.
If the pH is outside the range of pH 5.5 to pH 6.5 then plants will have increasing difficulty absorbing minerals and a mineral deficiency would soon develop even though in all other respects the hydroponic nutrient is OK.
The pH should be checked when the nutrient solution is first made, and if used in a recirculating system, the pH should be checked every day.
Common Questions
How often should I use this pH buffer to check my meter?
We recommend checking your pH meter with pH 7 Buffer at least once a week. You should also check it with pH 4 buffer at least monthly to ensure accuracy across the range.
What do I do with the buffer after I've used it to calibrate?
After calibrating, discard the buffer solution you've poured out. It isn't best practice to return used buffer back into the bottle it came from.
Why is pH important in my hydroponic system?
Correct pH is critical because mineral absorption by plant roots is pH dependent. If the pH drifts outside the optimal range, plants will have increasing difficulty absorbing minerals, and a deficiency can develop even if your nutrient solution is otherwise fine. You should check pH when you first make up your nutrient solution, and if you're using a recirculating system, check it every day.
How much buffer do I need to pour out for calibration?
Pour enough buffer from the bottle to cover the glass end of the probe when calibrating. Your pH meter's instructions will provide full guidance on the calibration process.
