Run the cable from your energiser to the fence line, keeping it as straight as possible to minimise voltage drop over the 100m length. Connect one end to the energiser output terminal and the other end to your fence wire using a quality connector or crimp terminal. Keep the cable away from metal gates and wet ground where it can short out, and bury it or use conduit in high-traffic areas to prevent stock damage. Tips: Check your voltage at the far end of the cable run with a multimeter—if it's dropped more than 20% from what the energiser shows, you've got too much resistance somewhere and need to check connections. High-conductivity cable like this one loses less voltage than cheap alternatives, but it won't help if your earth system is rubbish, so make sure you've got good earth stakes driven deep.

Common Questions

What's the difference between this cable and standard galvanised wire?

This Gallagher High Conductive cable has four times the conductivity of 2.5mm galvanised wire, which means it carries the electrical pulse more efficiently with lower resistance. It's a stronger option for your initial lead out from the energiser.

How long a lead out can I run with this cable?

This cable is recommended for lead-out lengths of 0.5–2km (or 1/3 – 1 1/4 miles). For lead outs longer than that, you'd want to pair it with standard lead out wire from the middle of your fence system onwards to get the optimum setup.

Can I bury this cable?

Yes, it can be used underground, but it should be laid inside plastic pipe for physical protection. The heavy-duty double insulation and polyethylene covering give good abrasion resistance, but the pipe adds an extra layer of safety underground.

What's the resistance and voltage performance of this cable?

The cable has a resistance of 8.5 Ohms per kilometre. At 2km of fence, you'll get 6.4kV; at 5km, 5kV; and at 10km, 3.6kV. For exact performance on your system, check the product specs or contact TGRM on (07) 5482 1692.

What comes in a 100m pack, and how heavy is it?

You get 100 metres of 2.5mm aluminium coated cable weighing 6.7kg. It comes with a 10-year warranty and is backed by Gallagher's reputation for quality fencing products.
