Lay the cable in a trench at least 150mm deep when running it underground to protect from stock and cultivation damage. For lead-out runs to your fence line, you can bury it shallower under gates where traffic passes, but deeper in paddocks where you might plough or cultivate. Strip back about 50mm of the outer sheath at connection points and twist the inner conductors firmly onto your energiser terminals and fence line connectors—loose connections lose voltage fast. Keep the cable away from metal water pipes and steel posts that can short it out. Tips: Always run your lead-out cable in a separate trench from water pipes and metal infrastructure, or use conduit where they cross, to avoid voltage loss and safety issues. Check your connections at the energiser and fence line twice a year—corrosion and loose twists are the main reason farmers lose output without realising it. The 200m length saves you splicing multiple cables together, which means fewer weak points where your system loses efficiency.

Common Questions

What's the difference between this cable and standard galvanised wire?

This High Conductive cable has four times the conductivity of 2.5mm galvanised wire, which means lower resistance and better performance in your fence system. It's also double insulated with tough polyethylene covering for extra protection and abrasion resistance.

How long should my lead out cable be?

This cable is recommended for lead-out lengths of 0.5–2km (or 1/3 – 1 1/4 miles). Use it from the start of your fence to the middle of the fence system as part of an optimum lead out setup.

Can I bury this cable?

Yes, but it should be laid in plastic pipe for physical protection when used underground. It's also suitable for use between earth pegs in your earth system.

What does the 200m length mean?

This roll contains 200 metres of 2.5mm High Conductive cable. You'll need to measure your lead out run to work out if one roll is enough or if you need more.
