Place the Bainbridge A8167 brooding cage on a level, well-drained surface away from direct wind and excessive moisture. Position heat lamps or brooders at the recommended height above the cage floor to maintain optimal temperatures for your chicks or poults. Ensure adequate ventilation by keeping the cage in a sheltered location with good air circulation. Clean and disinfect the cage thoroughly before and after each brooding cycle. Tips: Monitor temperature regularly using a thermometer, as SE Queensland's humidity can affect heat distribution within the cage. Place feeders and waterers on opposite sides of the cage to encourage natural movement and reduce contamination. Consider using the cage in a shed or covered area during the wet season to protect young birds from excessive rainfall common in the Gympie region. Common Questions

What age birds is this brooding cage suitable for?

It's designed for chicks, ducklings and other young birds up to four or five weeks old, while they're still learning to produce their own body heat.

Do I need to buy anything extra to use this cage?

Yes — the brooder lamp holder and bulb are sold separately. The cage has a metal arm to hold the lamp, but you'll need to source those items yourself.

What bedding can I use?

Hay or shavings work well. If your breed requires smaller spacings than the wire mesh provides, you can also use bedding to accommodate that.

How do I clean out the droppings?

There's a dropping pan that slides out from under the wire mesh floor, making it easy to clean the cage regularly.

Is it hard to set up?

No — it's easy to assemble using just a flathead screwdriver and the hardware included in the box.
