Target Weeds
Broadstrike containing Fluazifop-P-butyl controls a range of annual and perennial grass weeds. Key species include: Barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-galli), Summer grass (Digitaria sanguinalis), Crowsfoot grass (Eleusine indica), Liverseed grass (Urochloa panicoides), Wild oats (Avena fatua), Ryegrass (Lolium spp.), Couch grass (Cynodon dactylon), Paspalum (Paspalum spp.), Johnson grass (Sorghum halepense), and Windmill grass (Chloris spp.). It is effective on many problem subtropical grasses common in Queensland. Note: this product does not control broadleaf weeds or sedges.
Broadstrike 500GM contains Fluazifop-P-butyl, a selective post-emergent herbicide used to control grass weeds in broadleaf crops and pastures. It is applied as a foliar spray, absorbed through the leaves and translocated throughout the plant to inhibit fatty acid synthesis in growing points. Mix the required amount in water and apply using a boom sprayer or knapsack, ensuring thorough coverage of the target weeds. Always refer to the product label for crop-specific rates and volumes.
Apply when target grasses are actively growing and at the growth stage specified on the label — generally best results are achieved on young, actively growing plants. Avoid application during periods of stress such as drought, waterlogging, or extreme heat, as uptake and efficacy will be reduced. Do not apply if rainfall is expected within 1–2 hours of application, as this will wash the product from leaf surfaces before adequate absorption occurs.
This product is for use on broadleaf crops, ornamentals, and pasture species where grass weed control is required. It will not harm most broadleaf plants at label rates but will damage or kill grasses, including desirable pasture grasses, so always confirm crop/pasture safety before use. Check the label for any plant-back or grazing withholding periods relevant to your situation.
Always read the current registered product label before use. Dose rates and withholding periods on this page are provided as a guide only. The registered label supplied with the product is the legal document and takes precedence. If in doubt, contact TGRM on (07) 5482 1692 or the manufacturer directly.
Tips for Best Results
- Spray at the right growth stage: Apply to young, actively growing grasses — most species are best treated at the 2–4 leaf stage up to early tillering. Larger, stressed, or dormant plants will give poor results.
- Use an appropriate adjuvant: Adding a registered crop oil concentrate or non-ionic surfactant as directed on the label can significantly improve uptake and efficacy, particularly in Queensland's warm, dry conditions where leaf surfaces can be waxy.
- Resistance management: Fluazifop-P-butyl is a Group A (ACCase inhibitor) herbicide. Rotate with herbicides from different mode-of-action groups to manage resistance, especially in ryegrass populations in southern Queensland where Group A resistance is increasingly common.
- Avoid mixing with broadleaf herbicides: Some broadleaf herbicides (e.g. certain Group I products) can antagonise the activity of Fluazifop-P-butyl. Check label compatibility before tank mixing, and when in doubt, apply separately.
- Storage and safety: Store in a cool, dry, locked location away from children, livestock feed, and water sources as required for a Schedule 6 chemical. Wear appropriate PPE including chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection when mixing and handling. Dispose of empty containers according to label instructions and local drumMUSTER guidelines.
Always read the label and follow directions for use. The registered label is the legal document governing use of this product.
