Benchmark Perfect Mash is a remarkable new complete feed - naturally low starch and sugar.

Benchmark’s Nutrition team had a mission to create a new and innovative feed that would provide a balanced equine diet with high levels of essential nutrients but without relying on grains and grain bi-products.

By utilising the benefits of super fibres from soy hulls the team were able to create a truly remarkable new feed that ticks the nutritional boxes for many of our equine friends.

Highly palatable, Benchmark Perfect Mash is rich in natural antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and electrolytes – and importantly, despite being a great conditioning feed, it is genuinely non-heating, making it a logical choice for many horse owners.

Supporting Digestive Good Health:

In yet another innovative move, our nutritionists took advantage of the hind gut digestibility of the super fibres in Perfect Mash to deliver serious amounts of pre and pro-biotics, supporting the gut microbiome and microbiota (gut flora) population.

In an industry first for Australia, we have added Melofeed, a natural source of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase.

(SOD) As the name suggests, Melofeed is extracted from melon fruit pulp and juice. The benefits of SOD are well proven and are documented on the Benchmark Horse Feeds website.

What’s so great about super fibres:

Apart from water, fibre is the most important component of a horse’s natural diet.

Fibre is digested by fermentation in the horse’s hind gut or caecum, unlocking energy rich short chain volatile fatty acids, the horse’s natural energy source.

The digestion of fibre sources such as pasture, hay and chaff are about 40-60% efficient, meaning that about 40- 60% of all fibre is either not digested, or only partially digested and ultimately passes as waste in the horse’s manure.

By comparison super fibres, such as the soy hulls in the Benchmark Perfect Mash are about 75-80% digestible, meaning that much less is passed as waste and importantly more nutritional benefit is gained from each kg of super fibres fed.

Super fibres also stimulate fermentation, helping to protect the delicate microbiota (micro flora) balance in the hind gut.

These are also the same microbes responsible for producing most of the horse’s B and K vitamins which are so vital for the healthy daily functioning of the horse.

Feed BENCHMARK HORSE FEEDS PERFECT MASH at a rate of 0.5-1.5kg per 100kg of bodyweight daily, depending on work level and individual requirements. Divide the daily ration into at least two feeds and mix thoroughly with water to form a mash consistency. Always ensure fresh, clean water is available at all times. Introduce this feed gradually over 7-10 days by mixing increasing amounts with your horse's existing feed. Tips: This mash feed is highly palatable and ideal for horses with dental issues or those requiring an easily digestible feed. Store in a cool, dry location in sealed containers to maintain freshness and prevent moisture absorption. Monitor your horse's weight and adjust feeding rates accordingly, as individual requirements may vary based on metabolism, age, and activity level. Common Questions

What makes Benchmark Perfect Mash different from other horse feeds?

Perfect Mash is a complete feed naturally low in starch and sugar. It's made without grains and grain by-products, instead using super fibres from soy hulls to deliver balanced nutrition. It's highly palatable, non-heating, and rich in natural antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and electrolytes — making it suitable as a conditioning feed without the heating effect.

What's included for digestive health?

Perfect Mash contains pre and pro-biotics to support the gut microbiome and microbiota. It also includes Melofeed, a natural source of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD), extracted from melon fruit pulp and juice. These work together to support digestive good health and the balance of gut flora that help produce vital B and K vitamins for your horse.

Why are super fibres better than regular hay and chaff?

Super fibres like the soy hulls in Perfect Mash are about 75–80% digestible, compared to around 40–60% for pasture, hay and chaff. This means your horse gets more nutritional benefit from each kilogram fed, with less waste in the manure. Super fibres also stimulate fermentation in the hind gut, which helps protect the delicate microbiota balance.

What are the key nutrients in Perfect Mash?

Perfect Mash contains digestible energy of 11.1 MJ/kg, 11.5% protein, 4.8% fat, 34.6% fibre, 5.9 g/kg sodium, 1% starch, and 4.8% sugars (ESC). The main ingredients are soy bean hulls, cold pressed canola oil, Benchmark Vitamin and Mineral Premix, Melofeed (SOD), Agrimos, Yea-Sacc, and Alkosel 3000.
