Barricade Herbicide is for pre-emergent control of weeds in established turf, garden beds and nursery pots as per the Directions for Use.

Barricade controls susceptible weeds by interfering with cell division in the root tips of newly germinated weeds.

Barricade Herbicide is popular for its ease of use and longevity against troublesome weeds such as crowsfoot grass, crabgrass, chickweed, creeping oxalis, cudweed and sow thistle.

Barricade Herbicide is a non-staining liquid that may be applied as a topical spray to foliage followed by irrigation to wash the product into the growing media, or where canopy density is high as a soil-directed spray.

Barricade controls a wide range of pre-emergent grassy weeds and importantly breaks the germination cycle of Winter Grass (poa annua).

You can trust Barricade to last for up to 6 months so your application window is more flexible.

Barricade Herbicide binds high in the soil profile ensuring turf roots below the barrier are not affected and your turf stays in prime condition.

Barricade as a pre-emergent herbicide works in the topsoil layers. Application targeted towards delivering Barricade close to the soil surface is best suited to ensure optimum results.

Barricade needs to be washed in within 7 days after application.

Benefits of Barricade Herbicide:

Contains the active ingredient Prodiamine, a member of the dinitroaniline herbicides.
Pre Emergent control for up to 6 months with a single application.
Low risk of herbicide to the turf.
Mixes completely with water and produces a homogenous easy to apply suspension.
Can be tank-mixed with monument liquid for a complete couch solution for Poa annua control .
An economical solution for many grassy weeds including African Lovegrass, Parramatta Grass, Summer Grass, Crab Grass, Crowsfoot Grass and Winter Grass.
Flexible application window – well before weeds germinate exempt from poison scheduling.
Low odour, non-staining formulation with the flexibility to delay wash-in for a few days if necessary.
A complete couch solution for Poa annua control when mixed with Monument Liquid Turf Herbicide.

Target Weeds

Barricade Turf Herbicide with Diuron provides control of a broad range of annual and some perennial weeds in turf and non-crop situations. Target weeds typically include broadleaf weeds such as capeweed, bindii (jo-jo), clover, chickweed, and dandelion, as well as various annual grasses and seedling weeds. Diuron also provides residual suppression of germinating weed seeds in the soil, making it effective against a range of summer and winter growing annual weeds. Refer to the product label for the full list of registered weed species and situations, as efficacy varies with weed species, growth stage, and soil conditions.

Barricade Turf Herbicide contains Diuron, a urea-based residual herbicide that works primarily through root and shoot uptake, inhibiting photosynthesis in target weeds. It is applied as a soil-applied or foliar treatment depending on the target situation. Mix the required amount in a partially filled spray tank, agitate well, and top up to the final volume. Maintain agitation throughout spraying to ensure an even mixture.

Apply as a uniform boom or knapsack spray to the target area. For turf and non-crop situations, apply to moist soil for best residual activity — Diuron requires adequate soil moisture to activate and move into the weed germination zone. Avoid application to waterlogged soils or immediately before heavy rainfall, as this can cause run-off and reduce efficacy or result in off-target movement.

Timing is critical — for pre-emergent control, apply before weed seeds germinate. For post-emergent activity on small weeds, apply when weeds are young and actively growing. Do not apply during periods of extreme heat or drought stress as uptake and efficacy may be reduced. Always calibrate your sprayer before use and apply at the correct volume per hectare as specified on the label.

This is a Schedule 6 poison — always read the full product label before use. Observe all withholding periods, re-entry intervals, and restraints listed on the registered label. Not suitable for use on or near desirable plants, gardens, or in situations where run-off could reach waterways.

Always read the current registered product label before use. Dose rates and withholding periods on this page are provided as a guide only. The registered label supplied with the product is the legal document and takes precedence. If in doubt, contact TGRM on (07) 5482 1692 or the manufacturer directly.

Tips for Best Results

  • Apply to moist soil: Diuron works best when there is adequate soil moisture to carry the active ingredient into the weed root zone. If conditions are dry, a light irrigation before or after application can improve activation and performance.
  • Avoid run-off and waterways: Do not apply before forecast heavy rain or on slopes where surface run-off is likely. Diuron is toxic to aquatic organisms and must not enter drains, creeks, or waterways. Observe all buffer zones on the label.
  • Resistance management: Diuron is a Group C (HRAC Group 5) herbicide. Avoid repeated use of the same mode of action season after season. Rotate with herbicides from different groups where possible to reduce the risk of weed resistance developing.
  • Spray when conditions are calm: Apply early morning or late afternoon when wind speeds are low (ideally below 15 km/h) to minimise drift onto desirable plants, lawns, or neighbouring properties. Diuron can damage or kill non-target vegetation.
  • Storage and safety: Store in the original container in a cool, dry, locked location away from children, livestock feed, and water sources. As a Schedule 6 poison, wear appropriate PPE including gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing during mixing and application. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
