BARENBRUG CLOVER WHITE HAIFA BARE SEED PER KG 171010 at a glance

Haifa White Clover is a medium leaved winter active clover suited to high rainfall and irrigated areas.

Haifa white clover is a highly productive winter active variety suited to rotational grazing systems in higher rainfall areas or under irrigation in southern Victoria.

Haifa was selected for increased stolon density, (compared to a large leaved Ladino type), medium leaf size and increased winter activity.

Haifa is an older variety that has been largely superseded by later releases, however it is a useful addition to a mix in the higher rainfall zones where winter activity is required.

Features:

Increased winter activity with medium leaf size

Increased stolon density compared to Ladino types

Limited summer production compared to Ladino and later releases

Haifa white clover is best suited sown into a mix with more productive summer active white clover varieties particularly where irrigation is used.

Recommended sowing rates:
3-4kg/ha combined with perennial grasses and legumes.

Sow Haifa white clover during autumn (March-May) or spring (August-September) in SE Queensland at 2-4 kg/ha, ensuring seed is placed no deeper than 5-10mm as seeds are very small. Ensure soil is inoculated with Group B Rhizobium before sowing for optimal nitrogen fixation. Sow into well-prepared, firm seedbeds and avoid sowing with vigorous summer grasses that will shade out the clover. Tips: Haifa white clover is a high-bloat-risk legume and requires active management: introduce cattle gradually to clover pastures, avoid grazing when pasture is wet, frosted, or wilted, maintain pasture height above 10cm, and consider using bloat prevention supplements. Pair Haifa with perennial ryegrass or fescue for best results, or oversow into subtropical grass pastures for nitrogen-fixing benefits. Common Questions

What is Haifa White Clover best used for?

Haifa is a medium leaved winter active clover suited to high rainfall and irrigated areas. It's particularly useful in rotational grazing systems in higher rainfall zones or under irrigation in southern Victoria. It works well as part of a pasture mix with perennial grasses and other legumes, especially when combined with more productive summer active white clover varieties.

What makes Haifa White Clover different from other white clovers?

Haifa has increased winter activity and stolon density compared to large leaved Ladino types, but with a medium leaf size. However, it does have limited summer production compared to Ladino and later releases, which is why it's best included as part of a mix rather than sown on its own.

How much should I sow per hectare?

The recommended sowing rate is 3–4 kg/ha when combined with perennial grasses and legumes. Always check the product label or give TGRM a call on (07) 5482 1692 if you need advice for your specific situation.
