BARBED WIRE LONGLIFE IOWA 2.50MM X 400M WARATAH 142709 at a glance

Iowa Barbed Wire Long-life Blue

Features:

Made from 2.50mm soft/low tensile wire in a continuous twist pattern.

Greater fire resistance than high tensile wires making it more effective in fire prone areas.

Easier to handle along the fence line than high tensile wire.

Continuous twist pattern locks the barbs in place to avoid any movement with stock pressure.

Consistent and closer barb spacing means more barbs for maximum stock pressure and security.

No join in the wire coil provides consistent strength along the length of the reel.

Used as a sight or bottom wire helps cope with added pressure from prime lambs and feral animals.

Specifications:

Diameter: 2.50mm
Breaking Strain: 3.0kN
Recommended Tension: 1.3kN
Reel Length: 400m

Unroll the wire and secure one end to your corner or strainer post with wire staples, then run it along your fence line at the appropriate height for your stock. Pull the wire tight as you go, keeping tension even across the run — aim for a slight give when you push on it rather than cranking it bar-tight, which will snap in cold weather. Space your droppers or star pickets every 1.5 to 2 metres and secure the wire with staples, making sure they're driven square to avoid splitting the wood. Tips: Keep tension consistent across the whole run rather than over-tensioning — barbed wire shrinks in heat and expands in cold, so leave a bit of give or you'll get breakages in winter. Check your fence after hot days and again after a cold snap; small adjustments now save you from replacing broken wire later. The barbs on this wire are sharp, so wear good gloves when handling and keep it away from where horses might roll or thrash against it.

Common Questions

What makes Iowa Barbed Wire Long-life better in fire-prone areas?

Iowa Barbed Wire has greater fire resistance than high tensile wires, which makes it more effective in areas where fire is a concern.

Is this wire easier to work with than high tensile?

Yes. Iowa Barbed Wire is made from soft/low tensile wire, which is easier to handle along the fence line compared to high tensile wire.

How does the barb spacing help with stock control?

The continuous twist pattern locks the barbs in place and prevents them moving under stock pressure. The consistent and closer barb spacing means more barbs overall, giving maximum stock pressure and security.

Can this wire handle pressure from lambs and wild animals?

Yes. Iowa Barbed Wire can be used as a sight or bottom wire to help cope with added pressure from prime lambs and feral animals.

What's the reel length and key specs?

Each reel is 400m long. The wire diameter is 2.50mm with a breaking strain of 3.0kN and a recommended tension of 1.3kN. The reel has no joins, so strength is consistent right along the length.
