High Strength Aviary Meshes

Jack Large Bird Aviary Meshes are high in strength. Come in a range of various apertures and wire diameters to enhance both viewing and properly secure larger birds.

Suitable for birds such as Galahs, Corellas, African Love Birds and all Australian Parrots. For cockatoos and macaws, we recommend a very high-strength mesh such as our Mesh Panel range.

Suggested breeds are a guide only – actual mesh will also depend on the design and construction of your cage, aviary or pen. Please consult breeders to correctly choose mesh suitable for your birds.

Note: It is recommended that new galvanised wire mesh used in aviaries and pet cages be treated to remove excess zinc that could possibly harm the pets. Shave off any zinc spikes with a utility knife. The mesh should then be scrubbed with a mild solution of vinegar (2 cups in a bucket of water), and rinsed with clean water.

Unroll the mesh and stretch it tight along your fence line, keeping it level as you go. Secure it to your posts with fencing staples or wire ties spaced every 30cm or so, working from one end to the other. Make sure there's no slack in the mesh once it's fastened, or stock will push through and compromise the lot. Tips: Start at a corner post and work systematically along the fence rather than jumping around—you'll keep better tension and spot any kinks or damage before they become a problem. In the heat, the mesh will expand slightly, so leave a tiny bit of give rather than stretching it drum-tight, or you'll end up with stress points that fail.
