Slide the post cap over the top of your 90mm x 90mm square post until it sits flush. Make sure the post is cut square and level before installing the cap. Drive a couple of small nails or use construction adhesive around the inside rim if you're in a windy area to stop it shifting. That's it—the cap will shed water and protect the timber from rot. Tips: Cut your posts dead square before fitting the cap or it won't seat properly and water will run in underneath. If you're replacing old caps on existing posts, scrape off any moss or buildup on top of the post first so the new cap beds down evenly. In harsh weather, a bit of exterior-grade silicone around the seam keeps water out and extends the life of both the cap and the post.
