ALTACOR COTTON INSECTICIDE 5KG (AGENCY) FMC CHLORANTRANILIPROLE
- Active ingredient
- Chlorantraniliprole
- Controls
- Host: Cotton crops. Target: Lepidopteran insect pests
A water dispersible granule stomach and contact insecticide for the control of several pests on crops.
ALTACOR has a novel mode of action and acts by binding to and activating insect ryanodine receptors.
This activation stimulates release and depletion of calcium from the internal stores of muscles, resulting in impaired muscle regulation, paralysis and ultimately insect death.
Death of the pest occurs within 2-3 days, but inhibition of insect movement and feeding occurs rapidly.
ALTACOR is active as a larvicide through ingestion (stomach action) and through cuticular absorption (contact action).
ALTACOR controls mainly Lepidopteran insect pests, but also some insect pests in other Orders e.g. Coleoptera, Diptera etc.
Applications of ALTACOR have been shown to leave substantial populations of many beneficial insects (predators, parasitoids and pollinators) as well as predatory mites and can therefore be used effectively in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes.

Common Questions
What insects does ALTACOR control?
ALTACOR is mainly used to control Lepidopteran insect pests, including False Codling Moth larvae, African bollworm larvae, Oriental Fruit Moth, and Codling moth larvae. It also controls some insect pests in other groups such as Coleoptera and Diptera. Always check the product label to confirm it's registered for your specific pest and crop.
Which crops can ALTACOR be used on?
ALTACOR is registered for use on table grapes, stone fruit, pome fruits, tree nuts, peaches, nectarines, apples, and wheat. For specific crop use and any restrictions, please refer to the product label or contact your local agronomist.
How does ALTACOR work?
ALTACOR acts as both a stomach and contact insecticide. It works by binding to and activating insect ryanodine receptors, which causes calcium release from muscle stores, leading to paralysis and insect death. Feeding and movement are inhibited rapidly, with death typically occurring within 2–3 days.
Is ALTACOR safe for beneficial insects?
ALTACOR has been shown to leave substantial populations of many beneficial insects such as predators, parasitoids, pollinators, and predatory mites, making it suitable for use in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes. Always follow label directions to maximise safety and effectiveness.
What form does ALTACOR come in?
ALTACOR is supplied as a water dispersible granule in a 5 kg pack. Before use, read the product label and Safety Data Sheet for preparation and application instructions.
