Connect the positive lead (red) to the positive terminal of your 12-volt battery and the negative lead (black) to the negative terminal, ensuring the connections are tight and corrosion-free. Once connected, plug the leads into your Thunderbird EF-173 energiser unit following the manufacturer's diagram on the box. Check that the unit powers up and shows an active light before connecting it to your fence line. Tips: Keep your battery terminals clean and free of corrosion — a bit of baking soda and water works well — because poor connections will weaken your fence output when you need it most. In the Queensland heat, check your battery water levels regularly if it's not sealed, as evaporation happens fast and will damage the battery.
