Chemical Compliance & Regulatory Information

Chemical Compliance & Regulatory Information

Tom Grady Rural Merchandise (TGRM) is committed to the safe and legal supply of agricultural and veterinary chemicals in accordance with all applicable Australian laws and regulations. Please read this page carefully before purchasing chemical products from our store.

APVMA Registration

All agricultural and veterinary chemical products sold by TGRM are registered with the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA). It is illegal to use, supply, or possess unregistered agricultural chemicals in Australia. The APVMA registration number for each product is displayed on the label. Always check that the registration number on the product matches the current APVMA Public Chemical Registration Information System (PubCRIS) record before use.

Your Obligations as a Purchaser

By purchasing chemical products from TGRM, you confirm that:

  • You are purchasing products only for the uses described on the registered label
  • You hold any permits or licences required in your state or territory for the purchase and use of scheduled chemicals
  • You will comply with all label directions, including application rates, withholding periods (WHP), and re-entry intervals
  • You will maintain chemical use records as required under your state's Work Health and Safety legislation
  • You will store chemicals safely and in accordance with label requirements
  • You will dispose of chemical containers responsibly through the drumMUSTER or ChemClear programs where applicable

Withholding Periods (WHP) and Export Slaughter Intervals (ESI)

The withholding period (WHP) is the minimum time that must elapse between the last treatment of an animal or crop with a chemical and the harvest, slaughter, or use of that animal or crop for human consumption. The Export Slaughter Interval (ESI) is a separate requirement for livestock destined for export markets and is often longer than the WHP.

It is your legal responsibility to observe all withholding periods and ESIs. TGRM provides WHP information on product pages as a guide only. Always refer to the current product label as the authoritative source. WHPs can change when a product label is updated.

Restricted-Use and Scheduled Chemicals

Some products sold by TGRM are scheduled chemicals (S5, S6, or S7 under the Poisons Standard) or require a permit for certain uses. These include:

  • S5 (Caution): Available for general sale but must be stored safely out of reach of children
  • S6 (Poison): Available for general sale but subject to additional storage and handling requirements
  • S7 (Dangerous Poison): May require a permit or licence for purchase and use in your state. TGRM staff can advise on specific requirements.

If you are unsure whether you require a permit or licence to purchase a specific product, contact TGRM on (07) 5482 1692 before ordering.

Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

Safety Data Sheets are available for all hazardous chemical products we supply. SDS documents are available:

Under Work Health and Safety legislation, you are required to have a current SDS for every hazardous chemical on your property and make it accessible to all workers who may be exposed to that chemical.

Chemical Record Keeping

Queensland and NSW producers are legally required to maintain records of chemical use for a minimum of two years. Records must include:

  • Product name and APVMA registration number
  • Date of application
  • Area or animals treated
  • Rate applied
  • Withholding period observed
  • Name of the person who applied the chemical

TGRM can supply chemical use record books — ask in-store or call (07) 5482 1692.

Responsible Use

TGRM supports the principles of responsible chemical use including:

  • Using the minimum effective rate as specified on the label
  • Rotating chemical classes to manage resistance
  • Observing buffer zones and withholding periods
  • Avoiding application in windy conditions or near waterways
  • Using appropriate PPE as specified on the SDS
